Various thermal storage techniques are known to those of skill in the art and generally include insulating a container, generally referred to as a vessel, to keep the container cool, enclosing the vessel, e.g., a plastic bag or a storage device, e.g., a cardboard box, and immersing the vessel within a fluid, e.g., hot or cold water, and insulating the fluid to keep the temperature of the fluid relatively constant.
For example, U.S. Pat. No. 6,004,678 (the '678 patent) discloses a refrigerator apparatus and method of making a thermal storage material. The '678 patent also discloses a thermal storage material made from a porous web of a material, e.g., non-woven polyester fabric, with an insulating fluid in the pores of the web. However, the thermal storage material disclosed in the '678 patent has several disadvantages. Specifically, the thermal storage material disclosed in the '678 patent does not adequately retain the insulating fluid during use and removal of the thermal storage material from the vessel. In addition, the thermal storage material disclosed in the '678 patent has a variable capacity. The fluid moves into the thermal storage material during use ac619d1d87
